Questions for poly couples

Published 28 September 2026

Good relationships run on good conversations, and poly relationships run on a lot of them. These 60 prompts are for partners of any shape: couples, triads, nesting partners, long-distance lovers or a whole polycule around the dinner table.

Some are light, some go deeper, and a few are flirty. Use them on a date night, a road trip or a slow Sunday morning.

How to play

  • Take turns choosing a question. Whoever asks answers too.
  • Anyone can pass on any question, with no explanation needed.
  • Agree on a comfort level before you start, and play at the lowest one anyone picks.
  • Listen to understand, not to fix. Curiosity beats debate.

Want the app to deal the cards? Blend has games for partners and matches, including Question Roulette, Would You Rather and Truth or Dare, plus the Hot Partner Challenge for linked partners. Everyone sets their own comfort level before you play.

Warm-ups

Easy ones to get talking.

  1. What was your very first impression of me?
  2. What is a small thing I do that makes your day better?
  3. If our relationship had a theme song, what would it be?
  4. What is your favourite memory of us from this year?
  5. What is something you are proud of that I might not know about?
  6. What does your ideal lazy day together look like?
  7. Which of our inside jokes would confuse everyone else the most?
  8. If we had a free weekend and no budget, where would we go?
  9. What is something new you would like us to try together this month?
  10. What made you laugh hardest recently?

How we love

For getting to know how each of you gives and receives love.

  1. How do you most like to be shown love: words, time, touch, help or little gifts?
  2. When do you feel most connected to me?
  3. What does commitment mean to you in a relationship that is not exclusive?
  4. What is one thing about us that you never want to change?
  5. How do you like to be comforted on a hard day?
  6. What have you learned about yourself since becoming non-monogamous?
  7. Which of our agreements feels best right now, and which could use a refresh?
  8. What labels, if any, feel right for what we have?
  9. How can I better support your other relationships?
  10. What do you appreciate about how we handle hard conversations?

Jealousy and compersion

Gentle questions about the big feelings. Go slowly, and remember anyone can pass.

  1. When did you last feel compersion, and what sparked it?
  2. What does jealousy feel like for you, and what usually helps?
  3. What is the kindest thing I can do when you are feeling insecure?
  4. Is there something I do after a date that makes you feel reassured?
  5. What is one fear about non-monogamy you would like to say out loud?
  6. How do you like to hear about my dates: every detail, the highlights or just the basics?
  7. What helps you feel special to me when I am in the NRE glow with someone else?
  8. What would you like me to say, or not say, when you are feeling jealous?

Time and logistics

Not the sexiest topic, and one of the most important. Polysaturation is real.

  1. Do we have enough time just for us right now?
  2. What does a well-balanced week look like for you?
  3. Shared calendars: romantic, practical or unbearable?
  4. Which holidays and birthdays matter most to you, and how should we plan them?
  5. How much notice do you like before I make plans with another partner?
  6. What is our plan for when we are both polysaturated and exhausted?
  7. What would you like our check-ins to look like?
  8. What is one date night ritual we should protect no matter what?

Metamours and the polycule

For partners with other partners. Not sure what kitchen-table or garden-party poly means? See the glossary.

  1. How close would you like to be with your metamours?
  2. Kitchen table, garden party or parallel: which style feels right for you today?
  3. What would make a first meeting with a metamour feel comfortable?
  4. What about our polycule would you like to celebrate more?
  5. How should we introduce each other at parties and family events?
  6. What would you like a new partner of mine to know about you?
  7. How should we handle it if a metamour and I do not get along?
  8. If our whole polycule went on a trip, where would we go, and who would end up planning it?

A little flirty

Suggestive, never explicit. Save these for a date night.

  1. What is a compliment from me that still gives you butterflies?
  2. Which of my outfits should come with a warning label?
  3. What is the most attractive thing I do without realising it?
  4. Describe your perfect date night with me in exactly three words.
  5. Where is the most unexpected place you have wanted to kiss me?
  6. What text from me would you love to get in the middle of a boring meeting?
  7. What is something new you would like to try together, just for fun?
  8. Which song sets the mood for you?
  9. If you could replay one night with me, which would it be?
  10. Truth time: what did you think the first time we kissed?

Dreaming ahead

To finish somewhere warm.

  1. What would you like our relationship to look like in five years?
  2. What adventure should we have before the year ends?
  3. What does home mean to you, and who is in it?
  4. What is a tradition you would like us to start?
  5. How would you like to celebrate our next anniversary?
  6. What is one thing I can do this week to make you feel loved?

Questions

What if one of us gets upset by a question?

Pause and check in with each other. Anyone can pass, and it is fine to come back to a topic another day. The goal is closeness, not getting through the list.

Can we use these with more than two people?

Yes. They work for triads, quads and whole polycules. Take turns asking and let everyone answer.

Are these questions explicit?

No. The flirty section is suggestive and playful, but nothing here is explicit. Set your own comfort level and skip anything that does not suit you.
