Polyam Austin
A private Facebook group of about 2,300 members, started in 2019 for polyamorous and ethically non-monogamous people. It describes itself as a POC and LGBTQIA+ safe space and curates content to centre marginalized voices. Its rules ban unicorn hunting, dating solicitation and unsolicited messages, and ask members to keep discussions confidential.
Poly Big Fun
An annual workshop weekend and retreat for poly people in Bastrop State Park, east of Austin, which calls itself the longest-running polyamory event in Texas. It is 100% community run: everyone pays the same, there are no paid speakers, and members lead workshops on topics like communication and multi-family households, plus a Polyamory 101 class and icebreakers.
It is open to singles and families of any experience level. Early-bird pricing starts at $100 per person, including food and lodging. The next one is listed for May 13 to 16, 2027.
Austin Area Sex-Positive Community & Events
A Meetup group of about 870 members for people who value sex-positivity and consent, and who want to find like-minded folks and consent-oriented events around town. It is not poly-specific, but it is a friendly, open-minded crowd.
Its regular Community Coffee meetups are small and casual (a recent one was at Slackers Brewing in North Austin), and it also lists paid workshops such as facilitated connection games.
GWNN (The Group With No Name)
A Central Texas pansexual social and education group for the kink and alternative sexuality community. It is LGBTQIA+ friendly and hosts socials, parties and munches (casual public meetups where you just talk). It is not poly-specific, but a munch is a gentle, public way to meet open-minded people.
Older listings we left out
You will find other Austin listings online that we could not confirm as active. The Metro-Austin Polyamory-Positive Relationships Group on Meetup still shows about 1,600 members, but its last event was in May 2020. A Meetup group titled for Austin polyamory currently lists only online Zoom sessions and no organizer. An older AustinPoly.com page mentions a weekly Poly Austin dinner, but the page dates from 2016 and we could not verify it still happens. Apps people in Austin use for ENM dating
Austin is a big dating city, and ENM folks here use a mix of apps. Feeld is popular with singles and couples exploring ENM and kink. #open is built around ethical non-monogamy. OkCupid is a general app where many people say plainly that they are non-monogamous. Online groups like Polyam Austin fill in the community side.
Where Blend fits. Blend is a dating and community app built only for ethical non-monogamy, made by a small team in Ottawa. You can link partners (with their consent) and make couple and group profiles you manage together, so nobody has to explain their polycule in every chat. The Events tab lists ENM socials and lets organizers host their own, and there are icebreaker games to play with a match or a partner, such as Two Truths & a Lie and Would You Rather, where everyone sets their own comfort level. Messages are end-to-end encrypted. Blend is made in Canada but works anywhere, and it is brand new in Austin, so the community there is small for now. Early members and hosts help shape it.
Tips for meeting people in Austin
- Start online, then go in person. Read a group's rules and lurk for a bit. Polyam Austin, for example, bans unicorn hunting and dating solicitation, and that tells you a lot about the culture.
- Try a low-key first step. A community coffee or a munch is short, public and relaxed. Nobody expects you to share anything you don't want to.
- Plan ahead for Poly Big Fun. Early-bird pricing is the cheapest way in, and first-timers can start with the Polyamory 101 class.
- Couples, meet people as individuals. Let each connection grow on its own, and never treat someone as a role to fill.
- Consent covers more than dating. Ask before photos, don't tag or name people, and keep what you hear in a group within the group.
